“Tiger Garage is fantastic! They are fair, careful, friendly and fast. I always feel a bit uncertain with mechanics, especially the first visit, but my two experiences have given me 100% confidence in their skills and honesty. This is actually a Pop and son shop - small business need our support, especially now, and they also deserve it.”

Subaru Service Done Right

Subarus are genuinely capable vehicles, but they have a few well-known problem areas that separate a mechanic who knows these cars from one who's just guessing. At Tiger Garage on Witherspoon Street in Princeton, we've done head gasket replacements and clutch jobs on Subarus and done them the right way. One customer, Jonah Estabrook, put it simply: "They replaced the head gaskets and clutch on my Subaru, and they did it flawlessly." That kind of work takes time, attention, and the right parts. We don't cut corners on it.

Beyond the bigger repairs, we handle all routine Subaru maintenance too. Oil changes on the Outback, Forester, Impreza, and Crosstrek require full synthetic oil at the correct spec, and that's what we use. We also take care of brake inspections and pad replacements, wheel alignments, cooling system service, battery and electrical work, and tire rotations. Whatever your Subaru needs, we tell you what we find, explain what it costs, and get your approval before we start. Nothing goes on your bill without you knowing why.

Common Subaru Issues We Fix

Head gaskets are the most talked-about Subaru repair, and for good reason. The 2.5-liter flat-four engine used in older Outback, Forester, and Impreza models had head gaskets that would weep coolant or oil externally, or in worse cases fail internally and mix fluids. If you notice a sweet smell from the engine bay, white exhaust smoke when the engine is warm, or your coolant level keeps dropping without an obvious leak underneath, have it checked before it turns into a bigger problem. We've done this repair and know what it takes to get it right.

Subaru's symmetrical all-wheel drive system is a big part of why people buy these cars, but it also means tire wear matters more than on a two-wheel drive vehicle. All four tires need to stay within about 2/32" of each other in tread depth, or the AWD system can be stressed. We check your tires at every visit and will flag it if the wear is getting uneven. A rotation on schedule is cheap insurance. We also see clutch wear on manual transmission models, and wheel bearing noise is fairly common on higher-mileage Foresters and Outbacks. If you're hearing a hum or growl that changes with speed, bring it in.
